Individualist

What is an individualist

The Individualist is a naturally non-conforming person who possesses a willingness to take risks when appropriate. Once a goal they deem worthy has been set, they will generally push hard to reach it. They can work steadily either in a collaborative or independent setting.

Four Key Words

Creative | Independent | Unhurried | Confident

OVERVIEW ABOUT individualists

Individualists tend to have strong convictions, and they express them with confidence, often spurring innovation by acting on novel ideas. Generally undaunted by criticism or failure, they bring a creative spark to the team.

HOW TO MANAGE An individualist

Individualists excel when given the time and space to focus broadly on their goals. They appreciate the autonomy required to pursue creative, innovative solutions, but collaborate well with those who are experts in their own areas.

HIGHEST & LOWEST DRIVES

  • High Dominance: independence, autonomy, control over their own work.
  • High Patience: steady, deliberate, comfortable working at their own consistent pace.
  • Low Extraversion: privacy, minimal need for group interaction to get things done.
  • Low Formality: dislikes being boxed into someone else's rulebook.

FACTOR COMBINATIONS

  • A>B: Drives work forward independently rather than seeking buy-in first.
  • C>D: Values a steady rhythm more than following a strict process.
  • High A + Low B: Can be highly self-reliant and focused, but may operate in a silo that the team has limited visibility into.

SELF COACHING QUESTIONS

  • Have you considered where your independence is creating value, or whether staying too self-directed is limiting the collaboration needed for stronger results?
  • Have you considered when inviting others in earlier would improve the work, or are you assuming involvement from others will only slow you down?
  • Have you considered where greater consistency would strengthen your impact, or are you relying on personal judgment in ways that make your approach harder for others to follow?

    WANT TO GIFT an individualist

High independence and high consistency mean they know exactly what they like and don't want it chosen for them. Give them the freedom to decide.
